![]() The subtitle on the street name sign is "CONVEGNO DI PESCHIRA 1917". I did think that 1917 was a strange time to be holding a notable fishing conference but it was on the sign so I didn't argue. It turns out though that Peschiera is actually the name of a town which I drove through yesterday, where the River Mincio flows out of Lake Garda. Charo del Genio has now explained to me that the Peschiera Conference was a meeting held there between the Prime Ministers of Italy, France and Britain on 8th November 1917. The British and French proposed retreating from The River Piave to the Mincio but the Italians insisted that the front line should remain at the Piave, which kept the fighting away from Milan and ultimately proved to be a good decision.
